No better way to know the community than to volunteer!!! Young Lewisham Project leads a practice that is grounded in relationships, care and hands-on learning. I picked up some pretty handy skills here that I never thought would be part of my education in London! It's been incredible learning about the local culture and systems from the staff, and learning alongside young people who have been quick to tell me, "Your cutting is not straight," and then proceeded to troubleshoot solutions with me. I spent most of my time in the carpentry workshop, where I built this cute squirrel feeder. I was also happy to "touch grass" in gardening, where we salvaged old wood and built a seated planter. Can't wait to see what grows in the spring 🌻.
